  4. Howdy folks.  This is another Sumex posting by (as far as I can
  5. tell) the only producer of classic rock software.  This font is
  6. modeled after the typeface on the cover of Houses Of The Holy.
  7. I have provided the TrueType™ outline font along with four
  8. bitmapped font that I have tweaked into legibility for the
  9. smaller point sizes.

  12. -------------------------------------------GENERAL NOTES

  14. This font contains a number of non-standard characters.  The
  15. four runes from Led Zeppelin 4 (Zoso, etc.) are assigned to the
  16. keys `, ~, @ and %.  There are also a number of special ligatures
  17. (see tips for improving font appearance).  As far as screen use
  18. goes, size 18 is the nicest (12 and 14 are very condensed and
  19. the lines in 24 are a bit too narrow for my tastes).  The printer
  20. font, being TrueType™, looks good at any size.

  23. ---------------------TIPS FOR IMPROVING FONT APPEARANCE

  25. Kashmir also has several characters that make the type fit
  26. together better.  The vowels are underlined (just like on the
  27. album), and the bottom lines of some characters segue into the
  28. line under the vowels.  In order to get vowels to segue into each
  29. other requires a bit of trickery.  There is another set of vowels
  30. in the typeface with extended underlines.  To get them, type
  31. option-e (for extend) and then the vowel.  In addition, there are
  32. two versions of capital F and P.  Lower case letters will fit
  33. under the overhang if you use the versions option-p and option-f.

  38. Yes, as of now, the Kashmir font is available for the IBM.  While
  39. I have nothing nice to say regarding that computing environment,
  40. I am glad that my font can now provide nifty type for a much
  41. larger audience.  Be warned, however, that while I authorized the
  42. port, I was not otherwise involved.  My ability to troubleshoot
  43. the IBM version of Kashmir is, therefore, highly negligible.  The
  44. font can be downloaded from ftp.cica.indiana.edu, and it lives in
  45. the directory pub/pc/win3/uploads (or so I am told).

  50. This font is FREE!  There are no strings attached.  Distribute it at
  51. will.  I ask that you keep this document as part of the distribution
  52. package, because I want people to know the tips listed above.  Feel
  53. free to make changes to the font, as long as you send me a copy.
  54. Remember that I am not legally responsible for anything bad that
  55. happens to you, even it it involves my font.  Despite my current
  56. affiliation with the Institute for Learning Sciences at Northwestern
  57. University, the ILS is not in any way responsible for this project,
  58. as development of Kashmir was complete before my appointment,
  59. and ILS facilities were not used in the development of this font.

  72. meant to supplant the version claiming that I was at Bowdoin, which
  73. was correct until my recent graduation.

  78. The other classic rock software alluded to above are my HyperCard
  79. stacks of the Doors and Led Zeppelin.  Both are collections of lyrics,
  80. art & trivia about the respective band, and are available from Sumex
  81. other fine archives.  The Doors Stack is freeware, and an upgrade
  82. (v3.0), featuring radically improved artwork, should hit the archives
  83. around October 1993.  The ZepStack also includes sampled sound,
  84. information about live performances, helpful balloon help (!), and
  85. some nifty tools for exporting and manipulating the data.  It is the
  86. best collection of Led Zeppelin lyrics available on the net.
  87. Unfortunately for you, it is shareware (for a copy of the stack, send
  88. $10 and a: a blank disk and SASE or b: an e-mail address to the address
  89. above).
